A state’s governor is proposing an income tax hike to solve budget deficits, what do you think?

Question by ez f: A state’s governor is proposing an income tax hike to solve budget deficits, what do you think?
Due to the bad national economy, and foreclosure crisis, etc…state and local govts are finding their tax revenues are dwindling.

While the Democratic governor is trying to deal with the crisis, the republicans of course say that budget and program cuts should be considered first…so that more people can be laid off and put out of work to stimulate the state’s economy.

i see where mayors and govs are asking employees to take a day 2 or 3 days off unpaid to help.
many programs are weak and ineffective but we cannot trim too much. some make too much, some make too little, we cannot say redistrubiting the wealth, but some ass making 200k. to 750k. a year with a bonus compared to someone working 3 jobs to make ends meet, i would have to go with the hard worker vs. the big earner.

bushies war? he never asked the people to sacrifice anything for the common goal, now obama asks little of you, what does the average american have to offer, i would say little.

Do visitors to Miami think that the locals are rude?

Question by da_r71: Do visitors to Miami think that the locals are rude?
My wife and I love the beach in Miami, but it seems like most of the “locals” are psycho or rude. If you have visited Miami recently what was your experience when dealing with the “locals”. Note, I use the term “locals” loosely because of the high influx of northerners and immigrants.
By the way…. I live in a big city that is larger than Miami, so not excuses that people are rude because Miami is a big city.

What do you think dealer paid for a 2008 Taurus X Eddie Bauer?

Question by chinatrain99: What do you think dealer paid for a 2008 Taurus X Eddie Bauer?

A local dealer has a 2008 Taurus X Eddie Bauer that used to be a rental car. It has 11,000 miles. It was a rental so it doesn’t have xtra niceties on top of the EB package. They’re asking 21,000. Any ideas on what they may have paid at an auction? I’m guessing they have $ 15,000 in it. Looking for all opinions out there…

Best answer:

Answer by bigmunzon
According to National auction reports:

Average condition 11,000 mile E.B. front wheel drive Taurus X should have sold for $ 18,400 + auction fees, transportation, reconditioning and profit… $ 21,000 doesn’t seem to be ridiculous.

If the Taurus X happens to be AWD instead of front wheel drive then it would have sold for somewhere in the neighborhood of $ 19,000 with the miles you indicated. Again, don’t forget to add the fees, transport, and recon.

You can likely get a discount off the $ 21,000 depending on how aggressive the dealer wants to be.

Keep this in mind – last week alone, over 100 2008 TaurusX E.B. FWD sold at auction and 68 2008 TaurusX E.B. AWD sold…. those are fairly large numbers for a week – there should be no shortage of other similar vehicles to select from.

What do you think is the best way to find a good puppy to adopt?

Question by Y-AnswExpert: What do you think is the best way to find a good puppy to adopt?
It seems a local shelter can have dogs to adopt, but team members may be a bit reserved to help since they deal with all kinds of people. Breeders may be easier to deal with, but expensive. Someone who adopted a puppy but no longer wants it can be more reasonable, but then there is the risk if they are being honest. Is there a website or technique you find best to find a dog to adopt at an affordable adoption price?

Best answer:

Answer by Inna
If you have the time, energy, space, and money to care for a dog (or two), please visit your local animal shelter and adopt. If you’ve decided to welcome a dog into your family, you may be considering buying a puppy from a breeder. Approximately 6 to 8 million animals are handled by animal shelters in the United States each year. The births and deaths of millions of homeless animals could be reduced and prevented through spaying and neutering. The American Kennel Club (AKC) registered more than 413,000 dogs in 2006, some of whom will join the millions of animals who are abandoned in animal shelters each year. Breeding is encouraged for appearance matters that have nothing to do with the health of the dogs and sometimes affect it adversely. Potential buyers might be swayed by talk of “papers” and “AKC registration,” but these papers only mean that both parents belong to the same breed—they don’t ensure a dog’s good temperament or good health. Some people impulsively obtain purebred dogs, even though they may not be educated about the breed or ready for the commitment that animal companions require. Mixed-breed dogs have demonstrated superior intelligence and longer life spans than their purebred cousins, yet The New York Times estimates that for every purebred dog in need of a home, there are at least four homeless mixed-breeds. Pet stores are notorious for selling dogs who come from “puppy mills,” breeding kennels that raise dogs in cramped, crude, filthy conditions. As long as there are dogs dying in shelters, there is no such thing as a responsible breeder. Be sure your new companion is spayed or neutered. When you find your new best friend, you’ll be glad that you chose to save a life—instead of supporting an industry that breeds suffering and misery every day.

What do U think San Diego Faces Own Medicine as AZ Residents Cancel Travel Following Boycott Of State?

Question by I’m gonna start another riot: What do U think San Diego Faces Own Medicine as AZ Residents Cancel Travel Following Boycott Of State?
Arizona tourists are biting back against San Diego for its city council’s decision to boycott the Grand Canyon State over its immigration law signed by Gov. Jan Brewer last month.

Would-be tourists have notified the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau and some hotels that they are canceling their scheduled travel to the coastal vacation destination, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

According to the newspaper, the convention bureau has received about 25-30 emails from Arizona residents, with some saying they are canceling their reservations and taking their money elsewhere.

That has tourism officials urging Arizonans to consider the resolutions as merely symbolic and local politics at work.

“We’re in a very tough environment already because of everything else going on, and we don’t need another negative impact to our industry,” ConVis President Joe Terzi told the Union-Tribune. “This affects all the hardworking men and women who count on tourism for their livelihoods, so we’re saying, don’t do something that hurts their livelihoods.”

“I’ve been approached by a number of hotels who are very concerned because they’ve received cancelations from Arizona guests,” Namara Mercer, executive director of the county Hotel-Motel Association, told the newspaper.

Roughly 2 million Arizonans visit San Diego each year but the recession has taken a toll on the hotel industry that was hoping for a comeback this year. Hotels are offering deep discounts to fill up their undersold rooms while the tourism board spends $ 7 million this spring and summer season to promote travel to the area.

Several councils in large cities like Los Angeles, Austin, Boston and San Francisco have approved boycotts on employee travel or future contracts with Arizona businesses as a result of the law that goes into effect on July 1. The state tourism bureau has said the losses so far have reached nearly $ 10 million as a result of 23 canceled meetings.

But others are cautious, noting unintended consequences. Milwaukee’s city council delayed a vote on a boycott and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said he opposes such action.

On Saturday, former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin appeared with Brewer in Phoenix to criticize President Obama for not passing an immigration law and putting Arizona in the situation where it had to act on its own.

“It’s time for Americans across this great country to stand up and say ‘we’re all Arizonans now, and in clear unity, we say, Mr. President, do your job, secure our borders,’” Palin said.

Palin also has denounced a decision by Highland Park, Ill., officials who canceled the high school girls’ basketball team’s travel to the state in December. Both Highland Park Assistant Superintendent Suzan Hebson and the Austin City Council suggested that their decisions were less based on politics than concern their players and employees could be in harm’s way if they want to Arizona. Hebson, however, told the Chicago Tribune that she did not know if any student players were themselves illegal immigrants.

Palin, a former basketball player, said she would raise money or find other ways to get the players to the tournament.

Meanwhile, in San Diego, school board President Shelia Jackson said she is sorry people don’t want to come to her city, but she still supports her vote to boycott Arizona.

“It’s sad that people would cancel their plans to come here in reaction to that, but I still think we did the right thing,” Jackson told the Union-Tribune. “Certainly, we know how important tourism is to San Diego, and it wasn’t my intent to impact the tourism trade.”

Good on them. I think every city, county across the country in every state should get a dose of boycotting from travelers. Especially if those places have sanctuary cities that cater to illegals.

I think compensation is in order, How many people should I be able to claim on my tax return.?

Question by Mow Your Own Lawn: I think compensation is in order, How many people should I be able to claim on my tax return.?
I live in Houston Tx, and the majority of my property taxes are due to non-insured medical expenses at local hospitals and educational needs for non-citizen students. These medical expenses are a result of non-emergency related visits to local hospitals. The schools here do not teach the immigrant children English so they require separate school programs. Not that I have to mention it but a lot of these “kids” are outfitted with free school supplies, breakfast and lunch. With all of these facts, should I not be permitted to claim these illegals? My family has a yearly loss of thousands of dollars. So my thoughts on this issue are simple, ” If my family has to do without for the well-being of illegals, should I not be reimbursed?” I don’t have insurance and I buy my own food so whats the deal? At the risk of sounding racist I ask this question. If you dont understand my problem and you live in an illegal rich community, I suggest you take a closer look at your property taxes.
