Question by Bella: Any women who work at grocery stores?
I need the inside scoop. I am considering a part-time job for extra money. I am almost 30 and have grocery experience in receiving…but that was 9 years ago.
I am wondering what it would be like to work nights (overnight stocking) for a female my age. Or to be a cashier (evenings, maybe).
Give me all the details you can…
What is the pay? More pay for working nights? Employee discount? Heavy lifting? Not a job for women? Hard or easy to get hired?
Any input is appreciated! Thanks.
It is a unionized store in Arizona, if that matters.

I’m in the UK and got paid £5.89 per hour, that’s around $ 9.
I didn’t receive more pay for working nights, however, it is usually easier as there are less customers in and if you need to replenish stock, it is quick and simply.
10% employee discount, which rose to 15% after 1 year working there, you also get offered little discounts throughout the year, half price MOT at a local garage, 50% off a meal at an Italian restaurant, etc etc.
Not much heavy lifting, the majority is pulling around trolleys if you are replenishing.
Job for either gender really, I found more women worked there than men during the daytime, at nighttime there were more males.
Fairly easy to get hired, just focus on customer service.
